I know it’s a few days before June, but I really wanted to remind you of a show this Saturday May 31, 7pm at Steamworks up on Route 8 that you won’t want to miss! In other news, I’m beginning to read the book “I Heard There Was A Secret Chord” by Daniel J. Levitin, author of “This Is Your Brain On Music”. Fascinating to think about the emergent qualities of musical perception & production. As Levitin says, music seems to recruit every area of the brain that neuroscientsts so far have mapped. But enough of that… June is almost here, and summer playing is just getting started!
May Days…
May was a really fun month, starting to gear up for the summer.
On Saturday May 10, Nadine and Nathan Douds and I tried out some of the material we’ve been working on together at the Friendship Flower and Folk Festival at Baum Grove in Friendship. It was an uncharacteristically sunny day, and much fun was had by all!
June Tunes!
On Saturday May 31 at 7pm (almost June!), Nadine and Nathan and I will be playing a full show at Steamworks Creative up on Route 8 in Gibsonia. I’ll do some tunes solo, Nadine will do some tunes solo, and we’ll do a few together! Nathan Douds will join on percussion and keyboard. Click the image at right for a musical inviation!
On Saturday June 14, 10am to noon I’ll be doing my first solo gig of the summer at the Bloomfield Saturday Market. This is one of the best markets in town, always full of people, dogs, and families, and vendors with farm goods, beer, bread, sweet treats and many other things. Come listen and enjoy the market!
Just two days later, on Monday June 16 at 6pm, I’ll be playing for an hour or so with Nadine and Nathan again, this time for the Music Mondays series at 3 Rivers Outdoor Company. Grab a dog and a beer at D’s next door, or a coffee at the 61B Cafe down the block, and come sit in an Adirondak chair on the 3ROC patio and listed to some fun music!
Next, on Saturday June 21, 9-11am, I’ll be solo at the Swissvale Farmers Market right outside of Shoyer STEAM Academy in Swissvale, on the the day that we celebrate Make Music Pittsburgh. The Swissvale Market is another really important community market, and they are working on revitalize and grow the market this year. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve been up to… Come listen, and experience the updated market with me!
Then on Saturday June 28 at 630pm I’ll be hosting Autumn Ayers and Abbey Martin for an outdoor concert at Baum Grove Parklet in Friendship. I won’t play, but I’m really looking forward to seeing both of them in a full show. I used to host these outdoor shows a couple of years ago, and I’m looking forward to starting up the tradition again!
That makes for a pretty full June, and I can hardly wait!
But first comes the show this Saturday May 31 at Steamworks. Come on up Route 8 and enjoy the show. Don’t forget to bring a friend!

See you out in the world!
